The Danish Insurance Academy is an industry-owned educational institution. We are sole operator of providing insurance educations at mandatory levels and are thus setting the standards for the industry.
We issue diplomas and certificates, both life and non-life, for intermediaries, claim handlers, underwriters, brokers and loss adjusters.
Owned by the customers
Being industry-owned influences how the organization is run. The group of shareholders counts approximately 130 insurance companies, pension funds, insurance brokers and financial institutions and they determine end competences, level and contents of the insurance educations.
In daily praxis this takes places in the Supervisory Board of the Danish Insurance Academy; the top authority determining which educations the employees of the shareholders are liable to carry through.
Cross boarder activities
Though private, the Danish Insurance Academy has crossed the ‘boarder’ to the public educational system. Thus we are working together with Aalborg University (AAU) and providing the industry with the option to accomplish a diploma in Business Organization (HDO).
Furthermore, we are member of eficert – European Financial Certification Organization. Eficert is a European network with a mission to set joint and high standards within the insurance industry. The present chairman of eficert is Bjarne Dyrberg, who is head of Market Development and Educational Politics at the Danish Insurance Academy.
Expert consultancy services
Alongside teaching and developing skills and competences within the industry we meet customers outside of the industry. Typically that will be companies and organizations that deliver products and know-how to the Nordic insurance industry, i.e. IT-systems, and need knowledge about how insurance is run and understood in these cultures.
For further information about expert consultancy, please feel free to contact Mr. Flemming Bonvang, head of Customer relations or Mr. Ulrik Corlin Christensen, head of Products & Consultancy.
The Danish Insurance Academy was founded back in 1953 and ten years later, in 1963, the industry decided to establish the first mandatory education for intermediaries.
Today the Academy is situated north of Copenhagen and employs a good 40 people full-time (faculty and other staff) and approx. 250 part-time (teachers and external examiners). A little more than 3,800 students are educated at the Danish Insurance Academy each year.
